So, I picked up Ghosts for the 360 Friday night. There's a lot to like about this game.
For the first time since CoD4, the sky isn't cluttered with shit raining down on your head. It takes 7 kills just to get a Sentry Gun or the analog to a Hellfire missile, the Trinity Rocket. The default 3rd KS reward is "Maniac Armor" at 10. It makes you a fast-ass juggernaut that can only use knives and has infinite sprint. Haven't seen many of these running around...
Promethean Vision comes to CoD. If you use the Recon perk, in addition to tagging enemies on your minimap when you flash/stun them, they are briefly illuminated through walls so you can then perform a quick clear of the room. There's also something called an "Oracle" that is part of the Support strike package. Don't know
I love the UAV setup. They are now SAT-COMs, and one is practically useless. You need 2 on the field at the same time to get the traditional radar ping.
I'll go into what I don't like, but each group has weapons that have a free attachment. Integrated Sliencers, Armor-Piercing rounds, etc. that don't take up one of your attachment slots. The downside to this is that "Honey Badgers" (starting AR with a silencer) litter the battlefield...
They've split the lower-power snipers into "Marksman Rifles." These are still scoped, but can be used mid-range very effectively. Shotguns are fun.
There's gotta be at least 30. They unlock every level early on, then every other level. You can mix and match anything. They are the only things that unlock, though. Can be purchased with squad points, though.
The most innovative feature is your "Squad." Rather than have Prestige levels, you have 10 squad members. Your Squad Points pool. So, you can earn some cheap squad points by unlocking a new squad member (3 points), level them up to around 4 or 5, get 15 or so SP, then spend those points on your "main" character.
I have named my squad (Dragon) after "Ender's Game" characters.
Extinction - haven't tried.
What I don't like:
I like the idea behind "Squad Points." These are earned (not sure how) each match, and it's how you unlock guns / attachments. But it's tough to figure out what to spend it on. It takes 20 squad points to unlock your 4th custom loadout. That's freaking expensive. I finally figured out that I could go into multiplayer, Local Game, and setup a bot game to test out the various weapons. Wish I had figured this out before level 18...
