This is one massive spoiler. Because people who haven't beaten the game yet could see the thread, so I'm putting the whole thing in spoiler blocks.

Spoiler

Anybody got any thoughts on this little theory?

I have a thought: spoiler tags.

I just assumed, seeing as it says "Halo Wars' Ending", people would know to avoid it having not completed the game.

A similar theory was posted at the Halo Story Page a few days ago.

http://halostory.bun...l?newsitem=1117

It sounds somewhat plausible, but considering the vast expanse of space, and the relatively long time delay between 2531 and 2553, it might be a little too coincidental to be entirely believable.

That is a pretty interesting theory! Now if we had any idea where the Halo Wars shield planet was located it would help.
Lets see....

Halo3: Last location of Chief
Chief was heading into the portal and either
1. didn't make it and is still floating outside the galactic plane somewhere near the ark or
2. got teleported partially along the portal path, so is somewhere along the path between the ark and earth or
3. got teleported randomly and could be anywhere, anywhen. Oh well.

Halo Wars: Last location of other protagonists
fill it in for me, didn't play it.

Serves me right for not reading the titles of threads before I click on them. I just see that it's new and hop on in...

It looked to me as though the entire planet/construct was completely destroyed. The surface of the planet is falling apart as the Spirit of Fire exits, then as it heads on out into space you can see the planetoid first contract the explode sending out masses of debris alongside a huge shockwave. I don`t think even Forerunner technology could completely contain an exploding star.

You may be right about the link to the Masterchief though, perhaps the Spirit of Fire encounters the wreck of Forward Unto Dawn many decades later whilst orbiting another Forerunner(or other ancient alien) planet.

Not to be a pedant, but a nova doesn't "die out" within the distance of 1AU. Novae and supernovae aren't just bad, they're superomgwtfbad. They destroy their own entire solar system, and usually the solar systems nearby, and some emit enough radiation to sterilize pockets of the galaxy around them. A supernova going off near our sun would be as bad as say, activating the halo weapon system. It'd annihilate mankind as surely as the sun rises.
