So Tuesday I text message Jeremy that I would be going on a massive playing binge that night since I wasn't scheduled to work the following day. I get home, turn on my 360 like usual, log into xbox live and I start scrolling through my friends list when it freezes. I haven't had any problems with my 360 since launch except for one glitch where it freezes only when I compose a message and then go into a checklist in order to select all the recipients for my message. At times I would feel the menu lag as I would quickly scroll through any menu especially the friends list. Since it wasn't a big deal I simply avoided sending messages to multiple friends, I figured yesterday that when it froze it was a result of me scrolling viciously through my friends list. I tried power cycling the 360 and it would take a lot longer for my TV to show anything, it would then start the boot animation and freeze right in the middle of the spinning logo. I tried a few more times and all I would get were the THREE RED LIGHTS of death. I talked to tech support over the phone, they had me remove all the cables and HDD, plug everything back in except for the HDD and then it booted into the dashboard only to freeze within the first minute. After that it's been the three red lights every time except for about two times I tried it when it actually started to load a game only to freeze during the publisher and developer logos. I tried everything in order to fix my 360. I googled the three red lights issue, and learned a lot about the error codes. Just for your reference two red lights mean overheating, three red lights means hardware failure, and four red lights indicates a missing disconnected a/v cable. I learned that you can get the three red lights if the power supply is plugged into a bad power source such as a cheap surge protector or a strip with too many other items plugged in. Obviously I tried unplugging everything except for the tv and 360 and nothing changed. I attempted to plug my 360 into a different room where there's no electronics and also nothing. I was really pissed. I have to say so far the MS customer service has been great. I received my prepaid box early in the morning yesterday (Thu) at work, and I dropped off my 360 at the UPS store at 6:30 PM. Yes I'm very happy that they're using UPS or at least my repair order used UPS, hopefully they'll send it back via UPS because of all the missing or delayed 360 DHL horror stories. I just checked the tracking number right now and it's already in Texas. Hopefully they fix it today Fri and ship it out same day like they did with Soktos' defective 360. If they ship it out later today, I'll receive it tomorrow which would be sweet. I was told by the tech support rep that I needed to send my 360 in with the HDD attached. Soktos sent his 360 for repair without the HDD, they sent him a brand new 360 unit and not his defective one along with a new HDD. The same thing happened with another guy Limafoxtrot. In any case, I probably won't get a new HDD which is alright as long as I get a perfectly functional 360 which is free of freezing during vigorous messaging and scrolling.

That sucks Ivan. Microsoft does have excellent customer service and technical support though. When I had to send in my xbox to fix the whole dirty disc read error, it went really fast and smooth. If I were you I'd hope that you get to keep your hard drive, so you don't lose all your game saves, settings, etc. (is your gamerscore on your harddrive? or is it on some server on xbox live?) Anyway, hopefully you should be getting it soon.

I've had the 3 red lights happen before, it's happened like twice. But it hasn't done it continuously nor have I had any other problems...hope it stays that way.

Well, at least it's good to hear that MS have a nice quick customer service. My 360 is fine most of the time. Every now and then, if I've left the console on for ages with a game in and the DVD drive starts getting quite loud and then it'll stop reading the disc. It hasn't ever damaged a disc though, so as long as it stays that way, I'll be fine.

In other news, I'm a tool... I showed up at Best Buy today and saw that they still had two core systems. I convinced myself with a combination of "I live in the middle of nowhere", "I'm going to be all alone at school during dead week (a holiday)", and a call to both my roommate and vociferous. 640 bucks. I'm a tool. But I should be playing Perfect Dark Zero tonight, with 3 controllers, a headset, the media remote, and a hard drive tonight. So I'm a happy tool. Cool.

Halo, Vanwadilion, is not dead. PDZ does not equal Halo. Not ever. Sorry. It just won't happen. I will be using my Xbox 360 as a fancy new fangled Halo machine, first and foremost.

I can't snipe with the 360 controller, let me know if I'm just crazy or not. Maybe it's just something you have to get used to.

I'm actually quite alot better at aiming with the 360 pads. They are alittle more sensitive though, so probably best to move your sensitivity down about 1 setting. Totally agree about PDZ, it's probably more tactical than Halo, but it's just not as fun imo.

I played Halo 1 for a while. The graphics ARE sharper, less jaggy, and I did notice that 1) the controller felt less accurate (I didn't snipe - I was playing PoA) 2) sensitivity felt faster. Played some more PDZ. Blaze's aiming suggestions helped, and I really do enjoy that game. It's a different beast than Halo, but should be good for some fun. Then I played some Hexic. That shit is addicting. Yum. I tried PDZ's campaign for like 5 minutes. So far - yawn. I'm not excited yet, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. In the meantime, I discovered my favorite part about the 360 yet. I can plug in my IPod and drown out the annoying voiceovers and bunk-ass techno of PDZ. It's amazing sniping bitches to my own music - so amazing, that as much as I like Marty, I was pissed to discover that I can't do the same thing for original Xbox games. Oh well, when Halo 3 comes out I guess...

Ermmm, you may enjoy PDZs campaign. It's got the worst storyline I have come across in a game in a very very long time. BUT the gameplay is quite good and when you play on different difficulties, there are different objectives which is quite good. It just depends on what you want from single player really.

I used to get freezes every now and then, but this week it started flipping out. Freeze up with vertical white lines and a loud buzz. Now, it's started just green lines. All within seconds after starting a game. I know the red ring o' death is soon to follow... Mfg date: 2/20/06. Sharpe, how much did it end up costing to fix yours?

I'm giving my 4th try at NCAA Football tonight. It ran Lego Star Wars after only 2 reboots...

it cost about $129 with no warranty, and I bought mine a couple weeks after the release...took about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks to get the box, send it in and get it back...
