You know what would be an amazing new use for the X button? If it automatically pulled out a Halo 1 pistol...

Uuuhhhyeah. I know we have such an advantage over our options on Nightly.net, but I uh, I just don't know if we need to catalog Halo 3 info like this. That's just my opinion and i HAD to let it out. ;)

If it were up to me, the X button would release the armor over the Spartan's crotch and shoot a laser from his cock. I know I'm sounding like a broken record here, but I'm really interested in the changes made to the shotgun. I know they're there.

It has to be limited to the level of interactivity it already has. I mean, X does more than reload, it gets you into turrets, tanks and the like. I don't know if stripping away, or remapping a command to the bumpers from the X will account as "special". If it holds some new element like as mentioned earlier: activating a Jackal shield or making you dodge and do uber Spartan backflips, I think that would account as being special.

The (X) button may simply be an "on-the-fly" recording system for any gaming session. We know they're streamlining the menus to hopefully make every session a "multiplayer" session. Whether campaign or multiplayer, whether Live, System Link, or split-screen, all should have the same load out menu and all should have the same in-game options. If we can really capture footage for our own Halo 3 videos, then I would assume there might be an option to record mid-match by simply hitting the (X) button. At the end of the match, the game asks you if you want to keep it, it checks available HD space and then saves it. It's either that or a super gay jet pack.

Equally super gay would be a cover system...

I don't think it's either of those things. I don't know what yet though.

Does anyone think that the spike grenades could possibly be a claymore type thingy? Perhaps more like a proximity mine than a typical grenade? That would be a big change, but who knows....

I just don't know how much I'll like switching between frags, plasman, and spikes.

Ghosts of Onyx mentions a SAM (surface-to-air) missile launcher.

I can only hope that this hints that Halo will have 2 rocket launchers: 1) a SAM that locks on to aerial vehicles and 2) and anti-infantry/ground vehicle rocket launcher with no lock-on.

Other weapons mentioned:

Needler Pistol

Could this be the "New Needler" EGM is set to reveal?

Consussion Grenade

Another grenade variant?

There are other changes too. I'm sure Voc has been taking notes and will enlighten us in due time in his review.

And a Spartan Laser? Sounds like an overload of anti-vehicle weapons.

I'm awaiting EGM's scanned article on Halo 3. I'm suprised no one (including myself) has found it yet.

First off, did someone say Pistol? OMG. If it plays right, I don't give a shit if it's pink. Second off, the E3 2003 demo had some sort of concussion/flash-bang grenade- the part where Chief peeks into a room full of jackals and grunts, throws a grenade then rounds a corner to find them all rubbing their eyes... Third off, did someone say Pistol?

Yeah, and it's going to be called the N6D. Three needles=one kill.

How will the new control scheme work? Will we have to use the D-pad for switching grenades, and talking now? The X button would still have to be the "action" button if not reload since all of the other buttons are mapped so far. I wonder if it has something to do with controlling your shield like I mentioned before.

A preliminary theory I had is that the X button would swicth between alternate firing modes for various weapons. However, it just dawned on me that Y could be used for this easily. Tap Y to switch weapons, hold Y to alternate fire modes. Alternate fire mode possibility: the new Assault Rifle can toggle between (single shot?) and full automatic in Ghosts of Onyx. I believe now that it has something to do with the movement of your character. Perhaps it is a roll button, cover button, or climb button. Maybe it's a context sensitive movement button. If you are near a pile of crates and hold X down while walking into the crates, you climb them. OR Maybe it allows you to swap between 1st and 3rd person. Either way, my bet is that it is something drastic that will be about movement or viewpoint. Bungie has said it will change the way the game is played. This leads me to believe it is more then a video recording button or jackal shield.
