This 'Devil' & 'Hell' Director has just earned his HALO!

Hey folks, Harry here... The news hit IESB early in the pre-dawn hours of today, but it's news I've been waiting on for over a month now to break. I suppose if Peter Jackson is publicly talking about it, it's fine. Last I heard, Guillermo Del Toro was leaving about 2 weeks ago to meet with Peter in Wellington to talk about HALO. Universal and Peter Jackson have been courting Del Toro for over two months now. As of now, I haven't heard if Guillermo is officially signed yet, but he's probably pretty darn close.

There were two stumbling blocks that could possibly dislodge the deal. #1 - Guillermo had to like PETER JACKSON - whom he hadn't really met yet. I told Guillermo that he'd end up marrying Peter Jackson, as the only people that seem to dislike Peter are idiot Talkbackers that hate all rotund people. Even if Peter is no longer of that "caste" system. And #2 - Had to do with HELLBOY 2. Guillermo loves HELLBOY, like you love your porn. There had been a third stumbling block - they wanted to have Guillermo start shooting in like March, but Guillermo wants to be available to support the release of his latest gothic fairy tale. They moved the start date back to June to accomadate him. SO - I would say - the only thing that could stop HALO from happening under his direction - would be HELLBOY 2. Personally, I really hope this happens. Why? #1 - Guillermo hooking up with Weta and Peter Jackson is a very very good thing, and could be the start of a relationship that could eventually pay Lovecraft dividends with IN THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS that must must must be made with WETA! So for now, consider this a confirmed rumor that Guillermo is at the very least in serious talks, that are very very close to being finalized. I guess I should find out what HALO is.

Guillermo del Toro Unsure About Halo

Hellboy 2 may stand in the way of taking the reigns.

Director Peter Jackson (King Kong, The Lord of the Rings) has confirmed there've been discussions with Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy) about directing the hyped adaptation of Bungie's Halo, but nothing's set in stone. Del Toro's heart seems set on Hellboy 2, and if the studio greenlights the project, he'll likely pass on Halo, he told Empire Online.

"I'm in talks with them [Universal and Fox] and Peter, but it's not true that it's on and Hellboy's off. Hellboy's on. If everything goes as planned, Hellboy will go," he says. "The ideal for me would be to do Hellboy 2 and if Halo doesn't go away, then yeah, I'd love to do both. But it may go to somebody else. We'll see."

Chances are the studios involved won't be willing to wait a year or more for del Toro to complete principal work on Hellboy 2, so Halo could be handed off to another director. There haven't been any rumors of who else could be in talks, but chances are Jackson already has others lined up.

Though working on Halo may be falling entirely on the fate of another project, del Toro seems to like the idea of working on the film. "Halo is very much an interesting project because it's so full of monsters. It's a big temptation."

First off, fuck that Hellboy trash 'till it chokes. The first film was shit, and Guillermo is a maniac for not working on the one film that will most likely produce more profit than Titanic. Go masturbate to your Hellboy. It's better you don't stick your filthy ideas into this production.

No reason to be sorry. I just got sick of it because the acting, CG, dialogue... it was all trash. It's films like Hellboy that make me want to become an animator.

Halo Casting Rumor

Oscar winner linked with Master Chief role.

Oscar winner Denzel Washington is rumored to be up for the role of "Master Chief" in Fox/Universal's film version of the Microsoft/Bungie videogame sensation Halo. That's according to the Dark Horizons movie news website.

The site did not cite a source for the rumor, which comes on the heels of the news reported earlier this month by the Associated Press that Washington had met with filmmaker Peter Jackson in New Zealand to discuss working together.

Jackson is exec producing Halo. The AP claimed that Washington would direct an unspecified project that Jackson's Weta special effects house would do the visual effects for.

Halo was scripted by Alex Garland. There is no director set yet for the project, although Guillermo Del Toro has been rumored for the job.

He should be Sgt. Johnson.

I just always thought the MC should be white, but maybe that's just because I'm white. If we're going with a black guy for the role, I vote for Samuel L Jackson. Ha.

Master Chief's actor may be black, but the real character is white. The voice is not going to change, and I doubt you'll ever see his face, as in the cinimatic shots used for the game. Think of what happened with Darth Vader.

There is one part in the script where he takes off his armor to repair some damage taken in a battle with a Ghost (and operator obviously) early in the film. His skin is a bleached white. The Master Chief is caucasion. However, there are other Spartans who range in nationality and race. Rest assured, barring some unseen consequence, the Master Chief will be voiced by the same actor from the game. Hopefully, this is true about all of the main characters, particularly the Prophet of Truth if they make a sequel to the upcoming film. I really want Ridley Scott for the director position. I'd like the film to turn out a lot like Black Hawk Down meets Aliens.

I'm just sickened at the idea of Del Torro directing such a huge film. If you have Peter Jackson, you have all the directors you need. Put anyone in the big seat who will shut up, and let the real passionate artists take over.

I'm not hot for Del Torro either, but Jackson would have taken the directing job if he wanted it. He obviously wants to do this thing from a distance and in post-production.

Whoever does end up directing Halo, I hope they have a good grasp of capturing three things:

1) An artistic view of war and brutal military combat.

2) An eye for cinematography, specifically in respects to large, open environments.

3) A good judgement on where to draw the line when honoring the writer's original piece.

I hope Marty O'Donnell does the score, or someone who works closely with him.
