Don't forget to grab your free digital copy of Halo Reach. Games with Gold has it free until the end of the month, even if you have the game or don't want to full download it, just grab it so you can always download it later.

Don't forget those 3 mandatory $15 map packs while you're at it!

GWG is such a DLC scam.

Dude, it's a FREE product. How is that a scam? If you don't want the DLC you don't buy it and you can still play the Campaign, 11 maps, Forge and Firefight.

I would argue the maps are garbage anyway.

(Not that I've actually played them.)

There's no such thing as "free," Ivan.  Right next to the download, they have an icon to buy the map packs.  Which is required for multiplayer, right?  It was for Halo 3 when that went "free."

Everything that MS has put out for GWG since the program went permanent has had a heavily promoted DLC element to it.

I played the forest one from the first pack I think, but that's it.

Splitting the population with DLC maps is bullshit. I had to remind myself what the DLC maps in Reach looked like because 1) Reach maps were, by and large, very boring and 2) you had to go into a special playlist for map owners to even see them.

There's a huge difference between promoting map packs and something being a scam.

DLC is required for some playlists but not all of them, so no it's not required for multiplayer and neither was Halo 3. The playlists for H3 and Reach have all stayed the same since each game was "retired" upon the release of the new Halo title to replace them. There is always some playlists that don't require DLC.
