Halo is what connects this clan, so I had to stop by once when I heard the announcement. From what is shown, Bungie is taking all the right steps to bring one of gaming's biggest stories to a justifiable close. All the elements in the trailer, from the musical splendor to the visual-awe, compliment the story. Somewhere in the back of my conceptual mind, I see Master Chief dying off with the story. We'll see. I have good confidence this will be well up to par with what we would expect H3 to be. Other stuff I can't wait for is the wireless headset, camera, GOW and LIVE! integration with my computer. Expect me to be on a little more persistently in September too. Till next time...

From my ears, I think she said "Soul".

And I think she says Sword because it makes the most sense -- sword and shield. Hmm.

I just want the option for infinite grenades back. When I saw the ol' assault rifle, I knew they were putting that in as a carrot for the hardcore, a note letting us know they are going back to the roots. Thank gawd. I miss Halo 1 so bad. Lets just hope Bungie can fucking knuckle down and FINISH THIS MOFO right. Last time it seemed they spent too much time horsing around and not enough time making the damn game. Bungie has some time management issues. I hope they are resolved.

Apparently, the following picture was in the 'making of' documentary which came with the special edition of Halo 2.

It doesn't show anything we don't know but it's kinda interesting, and it's weird to think that they've been planning the third for so long....

How come no one noticed that little image in the background before the E3 trailer?

It makes sense. They say that this scene comes from a bout a third of the way through the game. The last three levels of h2 were cut out. The scene in this teaser probably comes from what should have been the end of h2--which would have kicked much more ass than the other ending we got.

No joke... our battle for Earth was cut down to a couple of squadrons of elites, 50 sniper jackals, and two hunters? Then the Earth city level got cut from a huge shitshow to two wraiths, two sniper jackals, and a couple of ghosts? Ugh.... Halo 2 had to have a cliffhanger ending, but the way they did it was just so unsatisfying. We did nothing for Earth, and although Outskirts was my favorite level, Metropolis sucked balls (except for the soccer ball and scarab gun, both of which were a lot of fun), end Halo 2 with the opening of the Ark and the storm brewing, and maybe there would have been a little bit more hype for this trailer, rather than guarded optimism from fans. Remember how stoked we were for the first announcement trailer for Halo 2? Bungie really shot themselves in the foot with Halo 2's gameplay mechanics (lost/upset a lot of hardcore players) and story (lost/upset a lot of hardcore fans). I'm not gonna act like I'm still not a Bungie fanboy (Halo 3 was why I bought 360, and I still play Halo 2 at college, although at home it's almost nothing but Halo 1 these days), but I sure have been a disillusioned one since Halo 2 (go back and look at some of my posts, haha). There was nothing at E3 I was looking forward to more than this trailer, but that isn't the case for most of the people this year, it seems. Maybe Bungie will respond well to being the underdog (kind of) again, who knows? One thing redeemed Bungie in my eyes and ignited a new hope: MA5B Fuck yeah. Lock and load. The more I watch that trailer, the more excited I get, but don't tease me- fuck lunge melees, fuck host advantage, and fuck the lack of a pistol- do it the right way this time Bungie... don't just hint that you're going back to what made you guys great, actually DO IT.

I think Halo 2 is perfect the way it is. There's no such thing as no host advantage (there's no way that Bungie could set up enough servers to support Halo 3) and I have a feeling that if they'd left the pistol as it was, people would have bitched even more. I honestly don't think the Halo 1 pistol could possibly be fair in an online setting. Host would pwn so much online that it wouldn't even be worth playing. The "noobish" autoaim is a necessity in console games, but especially when playing online where everyone has varying degrees of connectivity to the host. Let's not all get our hopes up too much, because of the appearance of one gun. I'm just hoping for an evolution from Halo 2. PS Does anyone actually believe this will be the last Halo game? When has a huge franchise ever ended in the video game world? I can't think of any.

They never said this was the last Halo game, only that this was the last game in the story arc. I don't know that there will be any room for a sequel at the end of this game, since I find the main characters dying has a very good possibility. I'm looking forward to some strictly-kick-ass-multiplayer game to emerge from Bungie's studio like the Unreal Tournament series. The majority of Bungie's staff could work on another franchise, while the multiplayer team could continue to provide multiplayer software for the Halo saga and people would eat it up.

As far as auto-aim and aim assist, Van, I don't think there's any reasonable argument for the level of auto-aim and aim assist in Halo 2. It's far too overly aggressive, and there's no way around it. There are plenty of games which don't have that level of aim assistance and they operate fine. Halo: Combat Evolved (and it's lesser aim assist/auto-aim feature) could work well on XBC, as long as there were consistently good connections and that game didn't even have online network code to support it.

While I agree, host advantage can't be removed as it stands now and dedicated servers are a long shot, I think considering dedicated servers (which would be removing the advantage of the host) would be fruitful for Microsoft and Bungie. Ubisoft and Electronic Arts can do this on a smaller scale, a scale I don't doubt Microsoft has the capacity to outdo. This doesn't mean that every match has to be dedicated, but the option would be nice.

Yeah, Van knows - he's just trying to sound like a bungie.net noob. I agree that host advantage can't be removed, but dedicated would be amazing, perhaps higher rank players could receive preference... I don't know? When I say host advantage, I mean shit like not being able to grenade jump if you're not host. What the fuck was Bungie thinking with that one. Seriously. How could it be that NOT ONE playtester thought to try it out or say something about it... dear God... I really think Chief's gonna die, sacrifice himself to... whatever he has to do. Halo 1 wasn't perfect, but it was fucking amazing. If they went back to the way Halo 1 was, even if they removed double punches (which would piss off pros), and backpack reloading, among other glitches, Halo 3 would turn out fantastic.

The sacrifice thing would be incredible. MC has always been portrayed as kind of a savior type, so it would definitely be fitting (maybe he could resurrect too ;)). I wonder what will end up happening with the Aribter (playable or not). If anyone has played the original Star Craft game, you know how cool it can be when the coolest character in the game sacrifices himself for everyone else (En Taro Tassadar).

Perfect Dark Zero doesn't have host-advantages that I'm aware of. Why can't Halo 3 be the same way? The Master Chief will probably sacrifice himself at the end of Halo 3 because Halo 2 was such a shitfest.

You guys are too hard on Halo 2's story. Honestly, the story in Halo 2 was ten times better written and better implemented than the one in Halo: Combat Evolved. There are other problems with Halo 2, from network code to the balance of the weapons and the vehicle selection, but one thing I think is amazing about Halo 2 is the story.

Some people didn't really care for the Arbiter, but I thought it was great. If they would have done anything else, people would be probably complaining about how similar the story was, stating that it was uninventive and lackluster. The actual story they went with was great, and although it stands to be truly completed, the game's ending does provide a good base for the conclusion of the series, they just didn't gravitate it enough. I'd say an additional three or four minutes of cut scenes at the end, showing the chaos on Earth and how the Covenant were bringing about desolation on an unprecedented scale, would have saved some face with fans, but instead, they end with a one-liner and some brief hints...that's it. I can agree that the ending is the worst part of Halo 2's story, but the story itself is better than we typically get in a video game, a movie or any other media presentation that is broadcasted. I'd personally like to play as the Arbiter in Halo 3 or at least one other character, but I don't really care that much, as long as the story arc is represented well, as it has been so far.

Now, I have a general question for everyone. Since people are paying attention to this thread, I'll ask here. I went to a private party at a local LAN center last week. The place is called Beat The Box and it's near Full Sail, a media production school you may have read about before. It's one of the best in the nation. At any rate, I had one of the best times ever at this place. They had a few Xbox 360's, but for the most part we were playing on the original and they have leather seats which recline, cup holders and a vendor with everything from beer and wine to Red Bull and Coke, 20 50" DLP HDTVs all connected to a network LAN, and a sound dome which pretty accurately reproduces the in-game music and sounds.

I played for a few hours and had a blast and I was thinking that if we ever had the opportunity to have a The Ephorate get-together, this would be an excellent place to hang out for a few hours. I've talked to Ivan and I don't know if this is going to be possible with any of you, no less all of you, so I thought I would just mention it and see what type of response I got. I can defintely rent the place out for a few hours on a Saturday or something, but if anyone is interested in having a get-together for this clans membership, let me know. You would have to pay for travel and room/board here in Orlando, butI would provide the rental of the place for the party and we could make an event out of it. A lot of you guys are young, so I completely understand if it's not feasible, but some of you are in college and maybe you could pull it off. Let me know if this is even worth considering...
