Seasons 1 and 2 are a million % tame compared to 3 and 4.

Also read the books. The show is fantastic but the books ratchet up the awesome subplots, subtle-actions-having-giant-implications, and characters up to 11.

The Battle at Blackwater Bay in season 2 shits on all other battles. It was fantastic.

Blackwater Bay was cool, but I honestly enjoy the other aspects of the show a lot more, especially the character development.

Would you recommend this to someone that really isn't the biggest fan of medieval time stuff? I always hear people talking about how good the show is, but the setting is the only thing holding me back.

Yes. I'm generally not a fan of the genre, but this show is great.

But the nudity in season 1 and 2 >>>

Great show. I'd like to read the books, but I think they'd take me a year to get through. I will eventually read them, but I'm trying to figure out when the best time would be to start. I kind of don't want to spoil the show for myself by reading the books (as weird as that sounds), because I like the show so much.

Definitely watch this. I'm not a huge fantasy fan either but what makes the show great are the drama, characters, politics, and unpredictability. Best series I've ever seen, it's top quality.

As soon as I get my Kindle, I will start reading the books. How much does each season cover? Is there a conversion guide somewhere?

Seasons 1 and 2 pretty steadily cover books 1 and 2. Season 3 covers roughly 2/3 of book 3 and dips its toes into book 4. Season 4 finishes book 3 (minus introducing a couple characters and a death) and mixes in a ton of stuff from books 4 and 5.

You should also be aware that the show cut a TON of characters, most of them minor enough that a major character could fill their plot shoes. And once you get to season 3 the show kinda takes its own direction as far as advancing the various plots from point A to B. The overarching plot is still very much the same, but outside of major character arcs the show has taken a big departure from the books (probably for the better IMO, book 4 and the first half of book 5 are boring as shit compared to the rest of the series).

As incredible as the show is, the books are so goddamn fantastic and in another stratosphere. You have to connect a lot of dots on your own, and stuff the show makes really explicit gets only hinted at in the series. That's not even considering the pretty major backstories and foreshadowing many of the main characters get. There's unreliable narrators, even more violence, lots more exposition, and the whole world feels a lot more alive and laden with history the show just doesn't have the time to delve into. You won't be disappointed.

You've certainly convinced me. I'm ashamed of myself for not diving into the series sooner, being the fantasy nerd that I am. It's like my perfect show.

Starting S3 tonight...

Maybe it's just me but as big of a bitch as Cersei is I find her incredibly hot. After Daenerys I find her to be the hottest one on the show.

Cersei, especially in the books, is just a complete crazy-ass.

Cersei is unbelievably huge cunt, and I would enjoy nothing more than to watch her burn.

When I watched season 3 with my girlfriend (I had already read the books) , I was surprised that she was more shocked by Jamie having his hand cut off than by the Red Wedding.

Haha the nudity is absurdly over the top.

I'm not really a prude but I'd just as soon they got rid of much of it. I feel embarrassed watching it alone or telling people I watch it cause at times it is like soft core porn. I wouldn't even try watching it with someone else. Now that I think about it there wasn't much from this past season.
