Loved the movie. I saw it on one of only a few Dolby Cinema screens in the country and that Atmos sound really was a revelation.

Anyway, how is Rey so strong with the force so quickly? I mean Ren has done training and he can barely handle her or Fin for that matter. She can immediately prevent him from reading her thoughts, and she can already use the force to manipulate people.

Ren is a raging little bitch, but I like the character, he's very conflicted with his emotions and it only works because he's so young. It's prequel Anakin all over again but it's actually done in a somewhat decent fashion. If anything really bothered me is that he has some training with a Sith, and the whole movie seems like a proficient killer, yet he doesn't totally own Fin or Rey.

Rens training wasn't complete. He bailed on Luke before finishing. At the end, Snoke says to bring Ren to him to continue or complete his training (his exact woding escapes me).

Yeah I noticed that, but he had to have way more training than Rey who had no training. Anyway, I do think he's a bad ass character, and I love the voice. The dudes size also works really well to be very imposing.

Finally got around to seeing this this morning. Yes, this morning. I went to a 9:30am showing by myself because Fiance Knowles was meh about going, so I left the heathenous wonderful gal home. I'm far from the biggest Star Wars fan on the block, haven't seen the originals in almost a decade now. But damn did that film nail the feel that the prequels completely missed. Not even touching on the great pacing, acting, and action.

Anyway, I thought Kylo Ren handled Finn pretty well considering Ren took a bowcaster bolt to the abdomen minutes before, and Rey's clearly proficient with melee weapons. What I took issue with is how Rey even knows that the mind trick is even possible. A Force pull is one thing, but knowing how to manipulate Daniel Craig to release her (...and drop his gun)? I don't know how she crossed that knowledge gap so quickly. Maybe she figured that's what Ren was trying to get her to do during her interrogation.

Yeah, I had problems with that too. There's plenty of reasons people can make up for it, but I simply don't feel like it was "earned" even with how funny it was. A similar problem I have with the film is it seems like were going down the path of people being born special, rather than becoming special. I know Luke was by definition always special but he at at least had to work hard to become what he was by the end. With Rey, it feels like her and Kylo were destined to be special because of their lineage and Rey in particular doesn't really earn the immense power she's got. It's a big portion of why I find Finn to be the most interesting character by a longshot right now.

I mean, it is only the first movie. Luke worked hard for his power, sure, but it was over the course of the entire trilogy (ESB in particular). When you think about it, right now her powers are still fairly limited.

1.) Mind Trick

2.) Force Pull (relatively weak at this point)

They seem to have retconned the need to be force-sensitive in order to operate a light saber, so that goes out the window. She's already skilled with a melee weapon, so I don't think her aptitude with a saber is too far fetched.

They established not needing to be force sensitive to use those with Grievious.

And as for the mind trick, I'd say that when she felt Kylo in her head she figured that it could be used in other ways.

I saw this on Dolby Cinema, we have one of only 10 screens in the country here by my house, and it was absolutely jaw dropping how great it looks and how powerful the sound is. The system uses dual 4K laser projectors with HDR so you get incredible brightness and color. The Dolby Atmos sound is even better than IMAX which I was very skeptical of at first.
