With the MLG finals coming up in New York, I thought it would be a good idea to make topic where we can talk about our favorite pro teams/players, stuff on VoD, cool MLG strategies we may have noticed, or anything else really. Hopefully this won't just be me and Syracuse going back and forth, but I wanted a place to talk about some of this stuff, because I look at MLG a lot like basketball or football, i.e. when I was a kid I wanted to be Steve Young or John Stockton, now I want to be Karma or Fonzi (yes, I know I'm a nerd). I'd like to hear any predictions you guys may have for who will face 3D in the finals this year, and I want to know what weaknesses you guys think IGS, Str8 Rippin, Legendz, etc. may have that prevent them from competing with 3D. I'd like to talk about controller settings a little too. I currently play boxer, sensitivity 4 (inspired by Zyos), no rumble. I'm thinking about attempting to go back to default, because after watching VoD for a bit, I've realized how crucial grenade placement is as well as being able to get a grenade off fast. So, I'm trying to weigh in which is more important, me 1337 melee skills or grenades. I don't really know any pros that use boxer (other than FallenSoldier and Cuse), but is it worth giving up that sick melee I get on H00ters every once in a while that makes him go beserk? I just don't know ;). Anyway, let me know what control settings you're using and any ideas you have.

I'm on right now trying out default. I may stay with it for a while. Now I'm just trying out different look sensitivities.

I've been using Boxer on 5 sensitivity for a few months now...I've grown to like it...I may try different sensitivities though

I just got done with a rumble training game with default. It was covenant slayer, so I was able to test my sticks easily. Default is working for me; I got nine sticks in the game. My beat downs were a little off; I kept losing fights I should have won because I hit the wrong button.

You'll get used to it, nice game though.

Being the nerd that I am I bookmarked a bunch of the Pros' stat pages, so I'll share the links with you, if any of you actually care. Most of the pros have at least 3-4 alternate accounts though (most of them don't play hardly any matchmaking either). But here's a few of them:

TSquared
He's the guy that was on MTV's True Life: I'm a professional gamer show. He wears his girlfriend's panties around his head at tournaments (his girlfriend's not too shabby). He's one of the 4 members of Str8 Rippin (one of the top 5 H2 teams).
MLG article on TSquared

Ogre 2
He must not use this account much, so I'll try and find whatever alt he's been using. He's one of the famous Ogre brothers (he's better than Ogre 1 imo, Cuse may disagree), and a member of Team 3D, the best Halo 2 team there is. He's won a couple of the big MLG 1v1 tournaments.
MLG article on Ogre 2
EDIT: Found his other one: Ogre 2

Walshy/Hotshy
Another member of Team 3D, considered by many to be the best overall H2 player in the world at the moment. He's known for his sick beatdowns and his use of "the claw".
MLG article on Walshy

Karma
Amazing slayer, good at 1v1 and FFA. Member of IGS, one of the only teams that can compete with 3D. He's the only African American Pro that I know of.
MLG article on Karma

Zyos
Member of Str8 Rippin (the only team to beat 3D this year), he was last year's Halo 1 champ, and he took the world cyber games in Halo last year as well. You might recognize him if you watched the xbox 360 unveiling on MTV (he was the pro gamer that played PD0 with the crappy celebs, and his team lost. He was pissed, it was hilarious). A lot of people dog on him because he's so serious when he plays, but when Str8 Rippin has had to play without him they haven't been nearly as good.
StrongSide
Another really good player on IGS, he won the most recent 1v1 tournament in Chicago, and he's a strong FFA player as well.

Ogre 1
The other Ogre brother, one of the best snipers I've seen. Another member of Team 3D, was pretty dominant in Halo 1, still dominant in Halo 2.

Fonzi
One more member of Str8 Rippin, might be the best FFA player there is. He also speaks like 5 languages or something like that.

Nakamura
He's from Utah, and he's really good. Hopefully you've all seen his montage, and some of him and Ripp0n's stuff from Halo 1. He hasn't done a ton on the MLG scene yet, but I think he will once he can find a good team to put around him.
EDIT: another Nakamura

That's it for now, feel free to post any other pros you find. Now we can commence spamming all these guys with friend requests.

MLG has created "baseball cards" for the gamers that have signed with MLG as pros, they haven't added all of them yet, but eventually they will. If you clock on the card, it flips over and you get more info on them.

It would be awesome as hell if I could get a card of myself. Too bad I'm not a MLG Pro :(.

I tried out Boxer, and I didn't like it because I couldn't melee out of a dual wield. I personally love Green Thumb. I can fire, throw a granade, melee, and break out a dual weild without moving a finger. Also, if I accidently push the thumbstick, I melee instead of zooming.

That's a good point, that's really the main detriment to boxer, but luckily it only has an effect in matchmaking, and not really in MLG. I usually get pwned in team duals only games (why, oh why did Bungie implement these?). Often times I just use a single SMG, a combination of grenades, and some good strafing to try and get close enough to beat down my opponent in those games, but it doesn't often work very well. I used to use green thumb in Halo 1 (although, looking back that was fairly dumb, luckily the kids I was playing with were bad enough that I could get away with it). I think out of all the control configurations green thumb is my least favorite in Halo 2. Zooming is fairly critical (at least in MLG), and you can't B-X-B or B-X-R with green thumb, so any advantage you may have by having melee mapped to the riught thumbstick goes out the window if you're fighting someone descent up close that's using boxer or even default.

MLG Pro has posted a pretty useful guide on going from n00b to pro at their site.

This is part 1, so hopefully we'll see part 2 soon.

Yeah, it is kinda hard to B-X-B with Green thumb, though it can be done. However, I may try out Boxer again and just avoid Dual Wielding altogether.

Here's part 2 of the MLG guide

EDIT: There's also been some shake ups in some of the good teams.

Fiend: Any shake-ups around the league? Any new combinations of top players coming together to try to unseat you?

OGRE 1: Str8 = KillerN, Fonzi, Foulacy, Tsquared
XiT = Cpt. Anarchy, Sir Samauri, Bonfire, ItWasLuck
LegendZ = Zyos, Toxin, Defy, Vash
IGS = Gandhi, Strongside, Karma, Shockwav3

Fiend: Wow, Zyos got dropped. Interesting. If you had to rank those teams, what do you think?

OGRE 1: Actually, Zyos left Str8

Fiend: That's less surprising. IGS seems like the second best.

OGRE 1: I can't really rank the teams because I haven't gotten to play with them much, but they will all have strong showings for sure.

I read a comment from TSquared and he said that Zyos got kicked off. So much for anyone beating 3D. I think Str8 had the best chance of beating them when they had Zyos with them. That LegendZ team ought to be pretty good, IGS will be awesome as always, and XiT Woundz will definitely miss KillerN. Maybe this will make Str8 a better team, but either way, I don't see 3D losing in the National Championships.

Here's the MLG Handbook, which basically talks about attneding tournaments and that type of thing, and how to go about getting prepared for them.

Sweet, my 5th post in a row in the same thread:

Anyway, mlgpro has put up a few more MLG Pro Cards.

And they also posted the 1st Annual Pro Choice Awards. These include awards for best Battle Rifle, best trashtalker, best sniper, etc. and they're all voted on by other pros.

I also share a man crush for him. Seeing that actually made me want to go play Halo 2. EDIT: Spearking of Walshy/Hotshy here's a pretty basic article on the double shot (R,R,X) by my man. Might help those that still haven't figured out how to use this consistently (like me).
