Only standouts were God of War (unsurprisingly), Monster Hunter World, and the Shadow of the Colossus Remake.

The rest was ENDLESS TRASH

GAF has the worst fucking taste, by the way. I hate myself so much that I continue to subject myself to it on a daily basis. Please save me.

Dragon Ball Z is for DWEEEEBS. Drew being interested is further proof.

I need something to be worthwhile fighting game wise. Game play looked nice.

Skull & Bones doesn't seem to be a jaunty pirate adventure game like Sea of Thieves -- it's mainly PVP naval combat. It's not even clear if you'll be able to control anything besides a ship.

True, we'll see what else they have up there sleeve with the game.
--

Sony is slow as fuck at updating their youtube channel with what they just presented, so most of these links are stream rips.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

Yup, looks like an Uncharted game.

Horizon Zero Dawn The Frozen Wilds

I'll eventually get around to playing the base game.

Days Gone

I'm burnt out on zombie games, but it looked nice.

Monster Hunter World

I really don't know what to think about this. May watch the trailer a time or two again.

Shadow of the Colossus Remake

Looks beautiful, but the controls will still be shit.

God of War 4

Day one.

Piderman

Definitely scripted, lots of quick time stuff. I'll still likely pick it up.

Kind of a lukewarm Sony conference compared to previous years.

Agreed.

Also, Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite looks like a mobile game. How embarrassing.

Yes, the LGs are the best OLED sets on the market for gaming currently. They have by far the lowest input lag of any set on the market. See this chart for reference. Samsung has the best image quality (they trade blows with Sony's sets in most tests) but have much worse input lag, even in game mode.

I looked at the same info about the LG OLEDs for input lag and that sealed the deal for me. I don't agree that Samsung has the best image quality, I think that goes to the LG OLEDs also as they do much better black levels and each pixel is individually lit for a more accurate picture.

Metroid Prime 4 is everything I could have hoped for out of this event. Disappointed there was no mention of Smash, but Metroid being alive more than makes up for it.

I was going by in-person impressions, but that was last year. I'm always afraid to go into the TV section because I don't want to walk out with something in my cart... Reading reviews about the 2017 models, it seems that there has been a significant improvement over the 2016 sets. It looks like LG is trying to position themselves as Panasonic did with plasma.

I'm really looking forward to the next few years in TV tech, things are really starting to get interesting again.

Guys, help me.  I'm doing that thing again.

That thing where I get excited for Call of Duty.  I haven't played a game of COD since Advanced Warfare.  I completely skipped Blops 3 and peaced out on Infinite due to the MWR debacle.

But this WW2 game with its new War mode looks like a heck of a time.

Somebody tell me that Activision is doing Supply Drops and that whole mess, and I'll be unable to care about CoD once more.

Details about the Headquarters mode:

http://www.eurogamer...rafts-orgrimmar

  • Michael Condrey really loved going to Orgrimmar in World of Warcraft, and given the growing popularity of towns in shooters, thought it would be a good thing to add to Call of Duty.
  • The town contains 48 players at a time.
  • The town has a bunch of quest givers who give you missions. These include the recruitment officer, the challenge officer, and the division officer.
  • These missions range from one time things like "create your first emblem" to daily challenges.
  • There are also social quests that just try to get you in various missions like "go play 1v1" or "go play Nazi Zombies".
  • All of these quests give you various rewards.
  • The town has a firing range that all 48 players can participate in at once if they like.
  • There's also a 1v1 dueling pit in town to emulate the idea of having duels in an MMO town.
  • You can talk with other people in town via voice chat, quick chat, or "era-appropriate emotes".
  • There's a new commendation system that feeds into a social score. You can give commendations for anything ranging from being a good player to being friendly to having a cool emblem.
  • Having a high social score will reward you with things like new gear pieces, new title cards, or medals among other things. I think this segment also implies your social score displays prominently somewhere or something similar.
  • They're hoping that the social score is another thing for players to tie their identity to instead of just their k/d ratio.
  • There's an in-game mail system where the game mails you various rewards as part of an effort to send you to the town. This helps get you into the social community more and also causes you to pick up your dailies and etc.
  • There's also a grouping mechanic in town to help you find groups you might like to play with. You can send out a town-wide notification if you, for example, have two people and want some more partners to go play zombies.
  • The Prestige system also takes place in town. Instead of going to a menu to prestige, you go to some kind of stage in the town where a general awards you and the entire hub gets to see you prestige.
  • They're also considering seasonal events for the town. For example, there might be VE Day festivities.
  • It sounds like they're still considering additional things for this mode in general.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 being a prequel deflated all my hype for it. That goddamn cliffhanger ending of the first game keeps me awake sometimes.

2018

EA
  • Sports
  • Respawn (Titanfall) is making a Star Wars game called Jedi: Fallen Order. Takes place between Episode 3 and 4 when all the little Jedis were being hunted. Holiday 2019. There was no reveal of this game, no logo, no anything. They just cut to an awkward live interview in the audience where Vince Zampella casually dropped some tidbits. Good job, EA.
  • Battlefront 2 is getting prequel trilogy and Clone Wars heroes. Is that a good thing, Tucker?
  • Unravel Two. Trailer. Shadowdropped. Out now.
  • Sea of Solitude. Trailer.
  • S P O R T S
  • A brand new competitive MOBILE GAME, bay-bee!!!! The next big esport. They had commentators and everything. Please watch this misery. Oh also, it's a Command & Conquer game. "Go fuck yourself." --EA
  • Anthem. No lootboxes. Some gameplay. Feb 22, 2019.
EA still has no fucking clue how to do E3.

Microsoft
  • Halo Infinite. 343 game. Trailer. No information given about what this game is gonna be.
  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Trailer. 2019.
  • Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. New FromSoftware game (Dark Souls). Published by Activision (weird). Gameplay trailer. Fantasy samurai game with a grappling hook. Yes.
  • Fallout 76. Trailer. 4x size of Fallout 4. West Virginia. Still don't know what this game actually is. We'll probably know later tonight at Bethesda's conference.
  • Life is Strange: The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. Trailer. Side story. New characters, same universe. Free on June 26.
  • Crackdown 3. Gameplay trailer. February 2019.
  • Metro Exodus. Gameplay trailer. Feb 22, 2019.
  • Kingdom Hearts 3 is just as incomprehensible as Death Stranding.
  • New Sea of Thieves expansions. Trailer.
  • Forza Horizon 4. Trailer. Gameplay. Set in Britain. Changing seasons and weather. Apparently every other driver in the world will be an online player. Oct 2, 2018.
  • Microsoft owns Ninja Theory now (Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice, Enslaved, Heavenly Sword).
  • PUBG is getting a new tropical and snow map. War Mode (probably 50v50).
  • The Division 2 exists. Washington DC. Looks like the same game. Snore.
  • Indie game montage. Enjoy 2 second snippets of some really interesting stuff. I recommend watching at 0.25x speed.
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Trailer. Lots of jumping and crumbling structures and falling.
  • Devil May Cry 5. Gameplay trailer.
  • Cuphead Expansion.
  • Tunic. Gameplay trailer. Foxboy: A Link to the Past.
  • Jump Force. Trailer. Super Anime Bros. Fighting game. Dragon Ballz. Naruto. One Piece. Death Note. Anime. Anime. A N I M E.
  • Dying Light 2. Trailer. Gameplay. Player and narrative choices apparently have significant consequences on the world.
  • Battletoads. Teaser. 2019.
  • Just Cause 4. Trailer. Tornadoes. Dec 2018.
  • Gears Pop. Trailer. Gears of War. Funko Pop. Mobile game. Hahahahaha.
  • Gears Tactics. Strategy game like XCOM. Set 12 years before Gears 1.
  • Gears 5. Here's a long cutscene and then some gameplay snippets.
  • Cyberpunk 2077. Trailer. Yasss.
Really solid showing from Microsoft. Like 95% of the conference was spent on games. Microsoft learned from Sony how to do E3. However, there was no mention of Halo MCC or classic Halos coming to PC, so I can't give it more than a 3/10.

Dying Light 2looks fantastic, I highly recommend picking the first up if you haven't ever played it.. I am hopeful that this new take on Halo isn't trash but it appears that they're heading in the right direction from what they've said about the art style. Time will tell though.

Cyberpunk 2077 looks incredible, though I never had any doubts that it would.

I'll edit in links when they become available.

Microsoft

  • Halo Infinite. 343 game. Trailer. No information given about what this game is gonna be. - Hard to get excited about a tech demo. Looked nice, though.
  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Trailer. 2019.- Beautiful. I should get around to playing the first one.
  • Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. New FromSoftware game (Dark Souls). Published by Activision (weird). Gameplay trailer. Fantasy samurai game with a grappling hook. Yes. - Looks great for people who are a fan of these types of games.
  • Fallout 76. Trailer. 4x size of Fallout 4. West Virginia. Still don't know what this game actually is. We'll probably know later tonight at Bethesda's conference. - K.
  • Life is Strange: The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. Trailer. Side story. New characters, same universe. Free on June 26. - Seems like something my kid would enjoy.
  • Crackdown 3. Gameplay trailer. February 2019. - Kinda just looks like the first two games...
  • Metro Exodus. Gameplay trailer. Feb 22, 2019.- Meh. Points for having Massive Attack as the background music.
  • Kingdom Hearts 3 is just as incomprehensible as Death Stranding. - My wife can't wait for this, so I'll end up playing it while she watches. The first two weren't bad.
  • New Sea of Thieves expansions. Trailer. - Meh.
  • Forza Horizon 4. Trailer. Gameplay. Set in Britain. Changing seasons and weather. Apparently every other driver in the world will be an online player. Oct 2, 2018. - I'm not into racing games, but it looks great.
  • Microsoft owns Ninja Theory now (Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice, Enslaved, Heavenly Sword). - Good to see MS realize they need some first party support.
  • PUBG is getting a new tropical and snow map. War Mode (probably 50v50). - Cool. Spend some time fix the damn performance issues and bugs, though.
  • The Division 2 exists. Washington DC. Looks like the same game. Snore. - No care, ever.
  • Indie game montage. Enjoy 2 second snippets of some really interesting stuff. I recommend watching at 0.25x speed. - K.
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Trailer. Lots of jumping and crumbling structures and falling. - Don't care for the series, didn't move the needle.
  • Devil May Cry 5. Gameplay trailer. - Yup, that's a devil may cry game.
  • Cuphead Expansion. - Very nice, can't wait.
  • Tunic. Gameplay trailer. Foxboy: A Link to the Past. - Map looks exactly like the map from 3D Dot Game Heroes for PS3.
  • Jump Force. Trailer. Super Anime Bros. Fighting game. Dragon Ballz. Naruto. One Piece. Death Note. Anime. Anime. A N I M E. - K.
  • Dying Light 2. Trailer. Gameplay. Player and narrative choices apparently have significant consequences on the world. - Haven't played the first, this looks neat. May give the first one a shot.
  • Battletoads. Teaser. 2019. - K, showed nothing.
  • Just Cause 4. Trailer. Tornadoes. Dec 2018. - Heh, the tornado thing is confusing. Looks like fun.
  • Gears Pop. Trailer. Gears of War. Funko Pop. Mobile game. Hahahahaha. - butwhy.gif
  • Gears strategy game. Like XCOM. Set 12 years before Gears 1. - Next up, GoW kart racing.
  • Gears 5. Here's a long cutscene and then some gameplay snippets. - Didn't play the fourth one, not interested in this one.
  • Cyberpunk 2077. Trailer. Yasss. - Nice looking world, interested enough to want to see some game play.
Really solid showing from Microsoft. Like 95% of the conference was spent on games. Microsoft learned from Sony how to do E3. However, there was no mention of Halo MCC or classic Halos coming to PC, so I can't give it more than a 3/10.

Nice that they focused on games, not a lot of meat to the offerings though as a lot of these will be multi-plat.

Will update with links when available.

Bethesda
  • Rage 2? Nope, here's Andrew WK sticking a microphone in his pants instead. Confused? So was the audience.
  • Rage 2 for reals this time. Gameplay. Spring 2019. Looks good, but it reminds me of Bulletstorm and that's capital B Bad.
  • Elder Scrolls Lege-- Next.
  • Elder Scrolls Onli-- Next.
  • Doom Eternal (Doom sequel). Teaser. "Wait until Quakecon to actually see this game. Thanks for playing Doom though."
  • Quake Champions is still in early access...
  • Prey got a New Game+ update tonight along with Mooncrash, an infinitely replayable mode. Prey Typhon Hunter: multiplayer hide and seek (prop hunt) mode coming later this year. 1 hunter vs 5 mimics.
  • Wolfenstein Youngblood. Teaser. New standalone game like Wolfenstein The Old Blood. Co-op focused. 2019.
  • Fallout 76. Gameplay presentation. New Fallout RPG. Online only. Every character is a real person. Can play solo. Servers only have dozens of players, not hundreds. Nov 14, 2018. Long presentation, but probably worth watching.
  • Elder Scrolls Blades. Mobile ga-- NEXT.
  • Starfield. Teaser. Bethesda Studios. Sci-fi. Next gen game, meaning 2020 at the earliest.
  • The Elder Scrolls VI. Teaser. No subtitle yet. Island setting potentially. Coming after Starfield. This game is so far off it's barely worth talking about. We'll be lucky to get it by 2022.
Conference was average. Some real weird bits and awkward moments. Bethesda has been pretty good about announcing games and releasing them in the same year, but this time they pretty much did the opposite. Lots of CG teasers for games and nothing else. No Elder Scrolls RPG for the PS4/Xbone generation is kind of baffling to think about.

Microsoft's conference was really strong this year, definitely headed in the right direction. Cautiously optimistic about Halo - seems that 343 has finally relented and recognized that people absolutely hate the direction the series was headed in. Sekiro looks great, excited for another solid Souls-like. Forza looks insane, as usual - 4k/60fps on X1X is great. Cyberpunk looks stellar, to the surprise of absolutely nobody - CDPR is bringing the heat.

Bethesda's conference was a hilarious train-wreck for the first fourth or so, but they were able to recover by the end. Still not sold on Fallout 76, will have to see more about it before I decide for sure - one thing is certain, though: I'm getting really burned out on Fallout. Doom and Wolfenstein both look interesting, from what little was shown. Starfield and TES VI are so far out that it seems a little silly to tease them, but they were forced to tip their hand because literally all we've had for the past SEVEN FUCKING YEARS has been FALLOUT.

Square's conference is not even worth talking about, an underwhelming snoozefest.

Ubisoft
  • Ubisoft opens their dumb conference with their classic stupid shit (Just Dance).
  • Beyond Good & Evil 2. Another CG cinematic trailer. Pre-alpha gameplay. Can be played solo or co-op. I predict this is a 2021 next gen game.
  • Trials Rising. Gameplay trailer. Switch/PS4/Xbone/PC. Feb 2019.
  • Mario Rabbids DLC. Dankey Kang.
  • Skull & Bones. Gameplay. 2019.
  • Transference. Ubisoft. Elijah Wood. Full motion video. Whut.
  • Starlink. Gameplay trailer. No Man's Toys. Also, it has Star Fox in it because why not.
  • For Honor free on uplay June 11 - 18. Wasn't paying enough attention to know if this is a free trial or what. New faction. New Castle Siege mode.
  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Gameplay. Greece. Spartans. Can play as male or female. Dialogue choices. No release date, but we're probably back to yearly AC releases.
Not a lot to that conference unless you're super into the Division or Mario Rabbids or Skull & Bones. No Splinter Cell announcement. No new IP (something Ubisoft typically likes to do at the end of their E3 conferences). Assassin's Creed really seems to be shying away from the whole "assassin's" thing, yet is still too afraid to shy completely away from the modern day animus bullshit. These recent AC games have also been going full-blown RPG/game-ification. Lots of HUD elements, loot, ability trees, numbers popping off enemies, loot, magical cooldown abilities, health bars, experience points, leveling up, looooot. Apparently Assassin's Creed Origins was really good or whatever, so I guess this is the right direction.

BG&E2 gameplay looking REALLY rough, easy to see why they refused to show it direct feed. I'm just happy it exists, so I will hold off on being disappointed for now. Going to pick up Origins soon, when I get an X1X. The new one looks really good, too - will probably buy it as well. The rest of the conference was completely forgettable in every way, absolute schlock.
