Sweet, I forgot about that.

The reason I thought that the supreme commander might be the Arbiter was because of the fore-word to Last Voyage of the Infinite Succor. It says, "This story also gave us a chance to do a bit of an origin story for the SpecOps Commander: Rtos 'Vadumee. Showing why he knows what the Flood smell like, how he received his distintive injury, and perhaps even why he felt he was able to speak in such a familiar tone with the Arbiter. From that last line, I inferred that at some point 'Vadeumee would come in contact with the Arbiter in the story, and after reading it, the only character I thought the Arbiter could be was the Supreme commander. It also makes sense to some degree because, the Arbiter was in charge of the entire fleet at Halo. So, what's the deal, am I wrong?

yes, when they mentioned the "distinctive injury" they were referring to the injury to his mandibles. The SpecOp commander in Halo 2 that we first see on the Phantom headed for the Heretic base is the same one in this story. I believe it's his right mandibles that are half gone, or was it the left I can't remember, that injury happened during the Last Voyage of the Infinite Succor. At least, that's what I got out of it.

Well, yeah, I know that. Theat's not the part in question. The part in question: In Halo 2 the spec ops commander does seem to speak to the Arbiter like he knows him, and from the impression I got from the fore-word to the story, I thought the Arbiter would be making an appearance (it says the story would explain why the SpecOps commander felt he was able to speak in such a familiar tone with the Arbiter), and I never saw the Arbiter in the story, so I'm thinking the Arbiter and the Supreme Commander (guy in the purple robes that give the order to board the Infinite Succor to the SpecOps Commander) must be the same guy.

the Supreme Commander, or the SpecOps commander? If I remember right, the Arbiter was originally the Supreme Commander of the fleet that pursued the Pillar of Autumn to the first Halo, but was disgraced and punished for letting it get blown up by the MC...

^^^Exactly. I'm just making sure. Have you read the HGN Sharpe/do you have it? I'm asking about the guy in the purple robes, it says he's the supreme commander, so I'm thinking he must be the Arbiter, but I just want to make sure everyone's on the same page with that opinion.

You're right, Van. That's the Seeker of Truth, the flagship of the Fleet of Particular Justice. Which was the Covenant fleet in charge of Installation 04, and the one the Arbiter was the Supreme Commander of. For some reason I expected him to wear his traditional gold armor, hence me not noticing him.

Good eyes, Van.

I just got the graphic novel about a week ago and I noticed something interesting in the first frame on page 61. I've been searching a little bit and I haven't seen anybody else mention this, but doesn't that look a bit like a shield bubble? I'll put up a scan of it later...

Holy shit, yeah it does. You can tell it's a shield because the paint balls the ODSTs shoot at her hit the shield.

a very good call, and now that you mention it, it would also seem to appear in the fourth frame on the previous page as well.

Hey, you're right! I wonder how long they have had the concept of a shield bubble.

I looked at this again today, and when I first read the story, I just assumed it was a representation (not accurate to the game) of the MJOLNIR's regular energy shield.

That said, the bubble shield might very well make a useful cushion for a rough landing like that, so it's entirely possible. But the panels don't contain anything that looks like the bubble shield device.

The thing about rough landings, I have stated that but apparantly it is wrong.

I think I get what you're saying--that the bubble shield wouldn't help with a rough landing. That may be true, it's probably the same issue as how jumping at the last second on a falling elevator won't save you.
