If watching videos is your thing, then you want a Creative Zen. I bought a Creative Zen Vision: M specifically because it accepts almost all video formats, no conversions required. Divx and Xvid encoded .avi's are no problem. You can drop the files on it and you're ready to go. This was a major selling point for me since I travel a lot, and I hate having to spend hours converting movies to mp4 or whatever the iPod requires. And the Zune only takes .wmv's. Almost 90% of movies/TV shows downloaded are .avi's. And on the rare occasions that it doesn't take a file (has only happened to me twice), it offers to convert (I guess the conversion software is preloaded onto the Zen). It also allows custom backgrounds, an FM radio with the ability to record, a built-in mic, a programmable shortcut button, and when I bought mine two years ago, its screen displayed more colors than the iPod's, although that may have changed now. You can also browse it from your computer just like you would an external HDD. That was another thing that bothered me about the iPod. With the Zen, you can drag and drop anything you want off of the device and place it on your computer - the iPod allows no such thing, due to DRM or something like that. The downsides to it are that its output cable is different from most other A/V cables. It's the same price as the others, but you have to buy it specifically for the Zen, I think. Also, in order to dock, charge, or use A/V out, you have to attach this little plastic dongle. It's maybe the size of two triple-A batteries. Neither of those things have ever bothered me, though. I'll let the Zune guys and the iPod guys come in and defend their devices, but if watching videos is your jam, then this is what you want. I have a Vision: M, but I'm sure there are better ones out now (I've heard that the Vision: W is good).

Zune Pros:

- Largest screen on the market.
- Wireless Syncing with the computer.
- Ability to wirelessly send music to other Zunes.
- Much more in-depth marketplace than the iPod.
- Custom wallpapers.
- FM tuner.
- I think the computer software is easier to use than the iPod's.
- Great battery life.
- Getting to be cool like Nightshade. (Priceless.)

I'm thinking about getting an iPod Touch in the near future. I need a new mp3 player and the new SDK announcements are definitely a BIG plus (Super Monkey Ball looked really impressive). Games as good looking as PSP games (and since it's a small screen, I wouldn't be surprised if they could look as good as Wii games), with a touch screen, motion sensing and a big hard drive... that's like PSP+DS+Wii+iPod...

I'm waiting to see if much comes from the SDK announcement. Just because the capability is there doesn't mean anyone will use it.

PS Also, Safari being built in is quite cool. The only mobile internet I've ever had in the past was on the PSP, and that was really rubbish.

I have an iPhone and have mine jailbroken (read: firmware hacked, I can use it as a BSD-based computer, I can compile programs for it, etc.) and yes, it's an amazing and nifty little device. I'd say it's vastly superior to anything else on the market right now.

I own a 16 gig Ipod Touch, and my brother has a 80 gig zune. I personally LOVE my Ipod, I would have bought the zune, but once I heard about the Touch, I couldn't resist. I love having the internet on it and it is extremely smooth to find your music and everything. The ipod touch has a 3.5 inch screen compared to Zune's 3 in. screen, which makes watching video's a little nicer. I personally find it a little tricky to navigate a zune, but that's just me. I also have my Ipod Jailbroken and have put a bunch of games on it which make it an even greater buy. You can get books on it, dictionaries, classic games, anything practically! I love it and wouldn't want any other type of mp3 player out on the market. If you have or are getting a touch youtube Ipodtouchmaster and look at his video's if you want to learn how to get the extra 3rd party features on your ipod touch!

Jailbreaking an iTouch/iPhone in two easy steps: 1. Google ZiPhone. 2. Run ZiPhone. (The button you use, by the way, is "Jailbreak." As in, I want to "Jailbreak" my iPhone/iTouch.)

Yeah, the touch feature is a major plus, but other than that, Drew pretty much summed up its advantages over other mp3 players.

- Safari
- iTunes Wi-Fi Store
- Upcoming SDK and all the programs that will come with it (Spore and id games anyone?)
- Jailbreak ability and all that comes with it (including VoIP)
- Google Maps with location ability
- Weather App
- Email App
- Very thin
- Many more accessories available than any other player

What about docking stations? Anybody use their's to play songs through speakers, how is the sound going to be?

My sister has an iPod speaker/charger that she uses and it seems to have fairly good sound quality, I listen to mine in my car, and it sounds fine to me.

The Zune and iPod both have really good audio out, and the docking station will actually take the decoded signal directly and put it over the speakers. (The dock, as opposed to line out or 3.5mm jack will have better quality, usually.)

My friend went from an iPod to a Zune to an iPod Touch and I asked him about it and he said he couldn't resist the touch screen, but they all worked perfectly fine. I just have a 5th gen iPod and it works fine, so I guess chances are you can't go wrong with whatever you choose.

I was thinking about buying an IPhone 3G and was wondering if you guys had any experience with this little device. I've heard mixed reviews about it, but I'm currently eligible for an upgrade, and it would only cost me $200-300. I don't really have a good mp3 player right now, so the IPhone would nicely fill two needs. Any thoughts?

The 3G kills the battery and the monthly fee with full features is a bitch.

If you're making less than $150,000 a year the iPhone will just suck your bank account dry with all the extra money you have to pay to take full advantage of it. Plus, like the shade of the night said, keeping the 3G on drains the battery faster than Usain Bolt wearing rocket shoes.

I know Falk0r loves his, and he actually has it. You can always switch the 3g on and off so I don't think it's that big of a deal. That said, it will cost you an additional $30 a month for data.
