I just got a new rig, finally I can pc game! I found it to be an amazing deal. Dell 630i, I got it at best buy as an open item: E8400 core 2 duo; 3.0 ghz 9800 gt 6 gigs of ram 640 gb HD 750 power supply And Vista home premium. 64-bit. All of this for under $900. It's like $400 dollars cheaper than dell.com. So if anyone's looking for a new good gaming computer, maybe you can get a deal as good as mine. I also saw a gateway FX with about the same specs for $1300 new of course. Also I was able to pick up a 22-inch widescreen dell monitor, it's beautiful. P.S. Anyone know some good video editing software? I'm looking for something not to expensive, user-friendly, but has a nice amount of effects and such. Thanks.

I would recommend buying a second hard drive and using Vista's built-in backup management to schedule nightly full hard drive backups to the second disk. Hard drive failures are awful, and the bigger they are, the harder they fall. Imagine losing 640GB of your personal documents, movies, all your information. If you get a 640+GB hard drive, I'll show you how to set your computer to make nightly backups. (Note that the built-in graphical utility does not do full system backups on a schedule, only document backups. It won't copy over your windows folder or photoshop.exe, but it'll copy over photoshopdoc.psd.)

If anyone out there has a pretty beefy graphics card, there's some new nVidia drivers out (185.20), apparently there's a new setting in them called Ambient Occlusion. Which supposedly makes lighting more realistic. I've not tried them out yet, but I hear you get a pretty huge performance hit.
