The first halo didn't need a "feedback" system.

Halo PC does have a feedback system. It's very subtle but there's a noise when you hit somebody. I'm pretty sure the trial does it as well (I'm installing it right now to check). It's just loud enough to let you know that you're doing something right, even if you don't realize it right off the bat. It might not be anywhere near as obvious as Call of Duty's hitmarkers or impact sounds, but even something so subtle that it goes unnoticed by most is enough to give you a far better feeling of feedback and "oomph" than the later games, where feedback is completely nonexistent outside of shield flares, and even those can be inconsistent (or non-existent, in some gametypes).

Edit: Just checked, the Halo PC Trial has it as well. Easier to hear with Plasma weapons.

By the way, if you're looking for some easy kills, playing on the trial servers is akin to shooting fish in a barrel.

I don't play video games much anymore, so I get raked when I get on Halo Multiplayer, and I would have to live in Hawaii to be on at the same time as AJ'ers. But Halo is not an RPG, all the 'feedback' such as level ups, killing spree rewards and weapon unlocks in COD only annoy me. They distract from the shooter-ness of the game similar to the way armor lock and rocket launchers do in Reach. If that is what you guys like, that's cool, you obviously aren't alone. Just thought I would put it out there that some players are not into all the bullshit. The hit feedback is different, probably a good feature considering the lag inconsistencies associated with online gaming.

This is the reason I don't play WoW or prestige. I enjoy call of duty regardless of little rewards, and it's nice that prestiging is optional and has very little do to with my performance against a 10th prestige. I consider bullet registration feedback to be separate from "little rewards," and more of Halo 3's poor hit registration opposite.

Last time I played the trial, most servers were player hosted. The lag is so bad you can't hit the broad side of a barn, and it's not enjoyable to be called a "noob" by the host. Makes me want to reach across the internet and put that kid in his place for his stupidity.

You gotta lead! I guess over a year of playing Halo PC over a 56k connection steeled my mind against laggy games (and later Gearbox's horrible netcode). I did just fine when I played the trial last night, even with 500+ ping while playing on a server that was apparently based in Asia. The Pistol is so good. I really miss it.

Heh, Self told me the same thing in a Gears 1 match. That was also the last Gears 1 multiplayer match I played, and can't accept lag on a 500+ ping level. Bad Company 2's 130ish is about as much as I can take.

No feedback when you hit somebody, no feedback when you kill somebody, nothing.

Can you elaborate on this? I see plenty of feedback. Visual cues such as lighting up an opponent's shield, blood, shield visually bursting with audio cue, I see medals pop up and a cR amount pop up when I kill someone including a text message broadcasting how I killed that person. If that kill counts towards a challenge a see another pop-up indicating so in in addition to another pop up if I have completed a commendation with that kill.

Plenty of audio/visual cues for hitting/killing someone.

So what exactly does COD do differently? Fireworks, hookers and full cash refunds?

There's a "thunk" when your bullet hits, along with a kind of an ... "x" ... that lights up your reticle. Or "rectal," as BloodyRedemption used to call it. I miss that kid.

I haven't played BlOps since Feb, so I can't remember right off-hand at the moment.

btw, the internet can thank me: over the weekend, I visited my nephew and mocked him so mercilessly about his cheating on xboxlive that he decided to throw out his lag switch. One less cheater.

Have you played a Call of Duty game before?

The different between shooting someone in Halo and in Call of Duty is like night and day. Medals are inconsistent, and I definitely don't remember cR showing up when you killed someone - is that new? The text is small and out of the way, and again, challenges and commendations are inconsistent. At range you can barely hear a shield pop, if at all. Sometimes it's hard to even see a shield flare, let alone see the dark blood that spurts out when someone's shields are down. Once again, it's inconsistent. The only consistent thing about shooting someone in Halo is IF you kill them, you get a text message.

If your bullet so much as glances someone in Call of Duty, you know immediately. You know when you kill someone, you know when you assist in killing someone, you know when your grenade hit someone around a corner, you know everything all of the time. The feedback is loud, prominent, always present, and most importantly, it's consistent. The same can not be said of Halo games.

Drew, please to be buying a new Xbox? kthx!

The Cr popup has always been there. It's out of the way, barely noticeable in one of the lower corners. The same place where the little medal icons popup.

The "thunkthunkthunk" in CoD is one of the most satisfying sounds in FPS-dom.

My reason for not playing is schedule, most of you get on to late. Plus I've been playing Dragon age origins which is a really good game. If you see me on though send me an invite And I might try to join in on some Reach.

Ultimate Edition? I recently started in on Awakening. I can't imagine someone that actually paid for all this DLC since the game's release. I have gotten 2.5 months play out of DA, and I've only done one character. I want to play the other Origins, and maybe finish the main game one more time. Witch Hunt is the last DLC I need to finish.

No I had a lot of MS points so like an idiot I just bought the DLC online.lol! I've beat origins already now I'm playing awakening. The other DLC didn't look compeling enough for me to buy so I just downloaded awakening! I received origins for my birthday so that's why I spent the points on awakening

I've played COD4 in it's prime and MW2 for a few days when it hit and that's it.

I don't really understand you comment about medals. challenges and commendations being inconsistent. They have always popped up when I expected them to. Assists are lower due to the higher requirements from Halo 3 but every medal I have seen pop up in all my games are pretty reliable.

If you can see an enemy in Reach, you can tell if their shield is flaring or not. That one of the better improvements from Halo 3, the who visual system of shields were upgraded and very easy to tell when your shots hit or not. There's nothing inconsistent about player shields in Reach. I can jump into a Custom game or matchmaking and take photo or video evidence to back this up too.

Never noticed anything you've mentioned in COD before. Played COD4 for many months and hardly touched the series since. Maybe your right and I'll assume you are. But I honestly don't get your comments about Reach inconsistencies.
